month, Coonfare Insurance Agency honors outstanding
area athletes. The October, 2009 Athletes of the Month
is Niki Flower, current State Champion Girls'
Tennis player.
Nominations
for Athlete of the Month are made by the team coaches
and selected by Coonfare Insurance Agency. Congratulations

FLOWER CLAIMS STATE TENNIS CHAMPIONSHIP |

Congratulations
to Upper Arlington High School junior Niki Flower,
who captured the State Championship in tennis on Saturday,
October 24.
Flower
fought her way to a state championship, turning back
challenge after challenge to win 7-6 (7-5), 6-1, earning
the gold medal that eluded her last year in the doubles
final.
"This
meant more to me than breathing," said Flower after
receiving her trophy. "I wanted it so badly. Even
more than just the tournament. Oh my gosh I'm so overwhelmed."
In what became a baseline battle, at first it seemed
[her opponent] Safdar was the one who would be overwhelmed,
as Flower stormed to a 3-0 first-set lead. Safdar, never
seeming to let any lost point bother her, stormed right
back. Suddenly it was 5-5. Then, 6-6. And in the tiebreacker,
4-4. "At
the begining she wasn't playing her best," Flower
said. "And I kinda jumped on her fast, and she
got it together. She played so well. "We
got to the tiebreaker and I just focused. Anything can
happen in a tiebreaker."
