The
Marv Moorehead Memorial Stadium, located on the
north side of Upper Arlington High School (Zollinger
Road) is named for Marvin Moorehead, Head Football
Coach for the Golden Bears from 1955-1969,
and has proudly hosted a variety of athletic events
for the Upper Arlington Golden Bear teams since 1969.
The
field was recently replaced with a state-of-the-art
artificial surface, and continuing improvements have
enhanced the Home of the Golden Bears.
Marv
Moorehead Stadium is home turf to several UAHS sports
teams: Football, Soccer, Lacrosse, Cheerleading, Track
& Field, and also serves as a stage for our Upper
Arlington High School Marching Band.
Marv Moorehead (1927 - 1997) became a coach at Upper
Arlington High School in 1955. During his years as coach,
he became known for his devotion to instilling life
lessons in his players, believing that if he helped
each individual develop to his potential, success would
naturally follow.
In
the years between 1955 and 1969, Coach Moorehead achieved
a record of 115 wins, 23 losses, and 3 ties. He led
the Golden Bears to three state championship titles
(1967, 1968, 1969), six league championships, and six
undefeated seasons.
Coach
Moorehead's commitment to family, religion, school and
then football earned him the affectionate title of "Papa
Bear."
"Tenacity,
teamwork, character and enthusiasm ... all life lessons
learned through athletics."
~
Marv Moorehead, UAHS Football Coach 1955 - 1969.
